WBAI LSB Meeting — July 25, 2006

The forty eighth WBAI Local Station Board (LSB) meeting was held on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, in executive session via teleconference. This is not an official Web page of the LSB.

Since this meeting was held in executive session I can't say anything about it here.

UPDATE: The LSB has publicized the motion passed at this meeting, so I can certainly comment on it, to a limited degree. Below is the LSB's statement and my comment on it.

I can't say everything I'd like to about the below resolution because it happened in executive session. But I can say that it was obviously a motion that the faction currently in charge had prepared and voted for. It's officially posted here.

In my opinion, the motion the WBAI LSB passed does nothing but stir the issue. It doesn't really inform anyone regarding the crisis WBAI is going through right now. I think that it would have been much better to have issued something that would have informed the Staff (especially) and listeners about the current crisis. The motion passed by the LSB exacerbates the current crisis rather than helping anyone get through it.

LSB Adopts Motion on Status of Interim General Manager

In a meeting on July 25, 2006 (held in executive session because it was discussing personnel matters), the WBAI Local Station Board adopted by a vote of 8-5 the following motion by staff representative Cerene Roberts:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the status of the WBAI Interim General Manager, the WBAI Local Station Board (LSB):

* Affirms that in order to uphold the vital principle that representatives of staff and listeners must be involved in decisions about the manager of their local station, no Interim General Manager should be terminated by the Executive Director or PNB without consulting the LSB; and

* Directs the LSB Secretary to immediately publish this motion and the vote on it on the LSB's webpage on wbai.org and to circulate that information to the WBAI staff and to the PNB.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Vote on motion:
Carolyn Birden - no
